The Rail Gun is a Sharpshooter Tier 4 weapon. It is a single-shot, high-powered sniper rifle. By default, the weapon is in guided mode, and will automatically lock onto a target's vulnerable hit zone such as the head when aiming down its sight at the cost of halved damage. Alternatively, the guided mode could be toggled off for the weapon to deal full damage instead.

Description

"Fire mode is single shot only. Using the sight lets you lock on to vulnerable spots on your target."

"This weapon fires a high-speed metal slug using magnets, penetrating Zeds like tissue paper."

Notes

  • In ZED Time, shooting while the guided mode is active will not fire a projectile, but will instead hit the target instantly.
  • The amount of recoil depends on the player's stance and movement; crouching and aiming down the sights will result in the lowest possible amount of recoil.

Strategy

The alt-fire button toggles the Rail Gun between its guided and unguided aiming modes. The guided mode makes your shots automatically lock onto the ZEDs' weak points, but the unguided mode does twice the damage.

After upgrading, this weapon takes 10 units of weight in the inventory, barely leaving room for the SPX 464 Centerfire. Alternative backup weapons include an upgraded Winchester 1894, .500 Magnum Revolver or 9mm Pistol(s).
