The Crovel Survival Tool is the Berserker's starting weapon. As its name implies, it is a combination crowbar and folding shovel. Unlike most other Berserker weapons, it has two differing attack types for its light and heavy attack: slashing damage and blunt damage, respectively.

Skill Synergies

  • The Berserker's level 5 skill Skirmisher and level 10 skill Vampire can help keep you alive in the early waves when your damage output may not be the best due to the low level of the Crovel.
  • The Berserker's level 20 skill Smash can help with destroying Bloats' heads with the Crovel during early waves if your other teammates are too busy or you don't want to use your 9mm Pistol.
  • The Survivalist's level 10 skill Melee Expert can be useful if you randomly spawn with or find the Crovel.

Strategy

A quick and versatile melee weapon, capable of dealing both Slashing and Blunt damage, decent enough that it can be used for earlier waves to skip straight to Tier 3 weapons.

A light swing can reliably decapitate lesser ZEDs; Gorefasts, Stalkers, Crawlers, and all types of Clots, and a well-aimed heavy swing can decapitate your immediate surroundings.

Despite its favorable handling, it deals rather low damage and lacks decent crowd control capabilities, and should be replaced with higher tier weapons by the time Scrakes and Fleshpounds might spawn in.

Fairly light, taking 4 blocks of weight in the inventory. If you aren't a Berserker and you have the space, it can be worth bringing one into the Boss round for parrying attacks, as it has better damage mitigation than knife. However, this shouldn't be relied on as a means of mitigating damage.
