Technical Information
Damage (Instant Explosion) = 200.
Radius = 9m.
Explosion Falloff = 1 (linear).
Instant Explosion spawns 10 shards. Each shard does 50 points of damage, has speed of 40m/s and bounces off of the surface for 2 times.
Fuze Time = 2 seconds.
Damage Type = Explosive, Piercing (shard).
Weapon Powers:
Melee hit power (explosion) = up to 100.
Melee hit power (shard) = 100.
Stumble power (explosion) = up to 500.
Stumble power (shard) = 1000.
Strategy
The fragmentation grenade, in addition to its explosive blast (which is roughly the same as that of the HE Grenade), also sends out 10 fragments that bounce off walls/obstacles.
Much like the Support's shotguns, frags are most effective when employed in bottlenecks, especially tight corridors. The effect of a frag grenade in a hallway is devastating; in addition to the explosive blast, the fragments, rather than dispersing, will proceed to bounce around said hallway like sharp, deadly pinballs.
Trivia
- The frag grenade resembles the American Mk 2 "Pineapple" grenade, adopted in 1920. Although used mainly during WWII, they were produced in such large numbers that they saw widespread use until the 1960's, and many examples survive today.
