The Reducto Ray is one the Survivalist's tier 3 weapons. It is a retro-futuristic handgun that shoots constant beam of energy. ZEDs damaged by the beam will slowly shrink in size, up to the critical limits where they die regardless of their remaining health. Reducto Ray bears unique Shrink power, see Shrink section of Afflictions mechanic for detailed explanation on how it works.
Reducto Ray is a DLC weapon. In offline solo play this weapon is only available for players purchased it from the in-game store or owners of Armory Season Pass 2, however should the player owning this weapon join the public server it is become available to everyone as a shared content.
Description & Flavor Text
- "Fire mode emits an energy ray that damages and shrinks enemies. Shrunken enemies are more vulnerable."
- "Honey, I shrunk the ZEDs."
Technical Information
Damage:
- Beam = 3.
- Buttstock bash = 26.
This weapon kills in a different manner: with every hit it adds 100 of Shrink power. For every 100 of said power it adds +1 x ZED's Shrink Modifier to this ZED's "Current Effect" meter. When value of this meter hits 10, ZED dies regardless of its health (except bosses).
ZED's Shrink Modifiers: all Clots / Crawler / Stalker - x2, Rioter / Gorefiend - x0.4, Bloat - x0.25, Gorefast - x0.6, Hustk / E.D.A.R / Siren - x0.7, Scrake / Fleshpound - x0.1, Quarter Pound - x0.2, Bosses - x0.15 (bosses cannot be killed by shrinking).
The smaller ZED become, the more damage it takes, up to x2 more when its "Current Effect" counter is at 10 (but again, non-bosses will die by that time). Damage increment is also affects Reducto Ray itself.
Damage Type = EMP.
Rate Of Fire:
- Beam = 750 RPM.
- Buttstock bash = 55.
Reload Time:
- Tactical = 2.66s.
- Dry = 2.66s.
Equip Time = 0.56s, Putdown Time = 0.67s.
Weapon Powers:
- Melee hit power = 20.
- Shrink power = 100.
Upgrades
- Upgrade 1 (700): Base damage x1.35 (4 primary), Base weight + 1 (6 total).
- Upgrade 2 (1500): Base damage x1.7 (5 primary), Base weight + 2 (7 total).
Notes
- In PC version of the game, for testing purposes players may acquire this weapon by typing following cheat commands in console while in solo play:
- EnableCheats
- GiveWeapon KFGameContent.KFWeap_ShrinkRayGun
- Beam has post-shooting life time where it does damage without consuming ammo (duration - 0.35s), which results is total of 7 hits for 3 units of ammo, given that player fires at short bursts.
- Approximate beam length is 11 meters.
- This weapon has miniscule splash damage values, however the actual damage is reduced to 0 due to rounding. This weapon is also considered to be "DOT-based" (without actual DOT values), therefore cannot trigger ZED Time.
- Damage type group: EMP.
Strategy
- Being a "flamethrower"-like weapon, the Reducto Ray emits a beam (a physical object) that does damage to ZEDs when it touches them. When player tap-fires this weapon, after releasing the trigger, the beam fades out for ~0.35 seconds. During this time it is still able to touch and damage ZEDs without consuming ammo. By using tap-fire technique player should be able to inflict overall more damage (therefore Shrink power) at ratio of about 7 hits for 3 ammo consumed. This reduces ammo required to kill a big ZED such as Scrake from ~100-110 rounds to ~50-60.
- Given its extremely low damage, it might not be worth upgrading this weapon, since it kills ZEDs by shrinking regardless of their current health.
Trivia
- Its triva text is a reference to 1989's american comic science fiction film "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids".
